About this work
Dozens of dark gondolas cluster together at their mooring poles in the shallow lagoon, hulls overlapping in rows of black and blue-grey. A lone figure in pale clothing sits on a wooden landing at the right, while a small motor launch drifts farther out, and the low domes and towers of Venice fade into haze along the horizon.
