About this work
Several cut-glass vessels, angular vases, a tall faceted bottle and a fluted cup, are arranged closely together on a plain tabletop, seen from a slightly elevated angle. Their multifaceted surfaces catch and scatter light in overlapping planes, while deep cast shadows fall across the table behind them.
The entire sheet is worked in dense, directional pencil or crayon hatching, building the glass forms from countless intersecting facets of black, grey and white. The high contrast between inky shadow and bright paper gives the crystal a hard, glittering brilliance, turning a simple tabletop grouping into a study of light fractured through glass.
