About this work
A tightly cropped view stacks intersecting rooftops and gable ends, one triangular pediment with a round window set before a taller gable behind it, against a wall punctuated by blind arches and a large circular oculus. A narrow chimney or turret rises between the roof planes, while darker window openings recede into shadow at lower right.
Built entirely from small, dabbed strokes of ochre, gold, and umber that read almost like mosaic tesserae, the surface has a granular, sun-baked texture. Light appears to glow evenly from within the pigment rather than falling from one side. The cropped, pattern-like composition gives the work a quiet, almost abstracted calm.
