About this work
Two massive weathered stone columns of a colonnade fill the right side of the canvas, framing a view onto an open square beyond. Two ornate cast-iron lampposts stand on the wet pavement, small national flags flutter on distant poles, and a scatter of parked cars and low buildings recede toward a hazy, pale horizon.
Muted greys and warm stone tones dominate the palette, with only the reddish flags and a hint of green trees breaking the overcast monotony.
