Evening at Sorot' river

A grassy hill rises under a sky split between dark, rolling storm clouds and pale blue gaps. A large tree in full autumn color - orange, gold and touches of red - crowns the slope beside a whitewashed house with a red roof and an arched doorway. A haystack and a seated figure sit at lower right, with another tiny figure barely visible at the left edge of the hill.

Thick, textured brushwork builds the foliage into dense impasto clumps, while the sky is scumbled in broader strokes of grey and white. The contrast between the brooding clouds and the sunlit foliage and walls gives the scene a charged, changeable atmosphere, as though the light will not hold. The effect favors mood and texture over topographic detail.
