About this work
A standing female figure reaches one arm straight up to grip a vertical pole, her long wavy hair blown out to one side in loose strands. She wears a strapless band across her chest and a length of cloth wound around her hips and thigh, one leg bent and raised on pointed toes, the other leg braced.
Rendered in sepia on paper with careful cross-hatching and soft blended shadow, the drawing models the body's musculature and the fall of drapery in warm brown tones against a bare ground. The twisting stance and wind-blown hair give the figure a charged, dance-like momentum.
