About this work

A young woman stands full-length with her body twisted, one arm bent up so the hand touches her beret, the other flung outward with fingers splayed as if pulled by strings. An open striped jacket falls loosely from her shoulders over a fitted top and shorts, bare feet planted unevenly, the whole pose recalling a marionette caught mid-gesture.

The entire figure is drawn in a single warm red tone on bare paper, ranging from pale washes over the legs to dense, saturated strokes in the shirt and hands. Confident contour lines and loose cross-hatching build volume quickly, leaving parts of the paper untouched, and the monochrome red gives the pose a charged, theatrical energy.
