About this work
A woman stands in near-complete profile, her head turned to look right while her body faces left, one hand resting near her hip. The figure is drawn with a single unbroken contour line, legs together and weight settled, feet planted near the bottom edge of the paper.
The outline is spare and calligraphic, with scribbled hair the densest passage of mark-making on the sheet. A soft grey wash pools and drips down the left side and around the legs, its uneven bleeding contrasting with the crisp, controlled line. The result is quiet and understated, a simple study rather than a finished tableau.
