About this work
Five women in red folk costumes with dark floral-bordered skirts and patterned headscarves gather in and around an open wooden doorway. One in white holds bread, the central figure cradles a bowl of flowers, a small bird perches on another woman's shoulder, and a large bundle of dried herbs hangs from the doorframe above them, with a village landscape visible beyond.
Saturated reds and blacks dominate the costumes, set off by gold-green tones in the landscape and embroidered florals. Forms are flattened and stylized, with simplified, doll-like faces and strong outlines. Even, bright lighting removes deep shadow, giving the scene a decorative, festive quality that evokes folk ritual and harvest gathering.
