About this work
Six figures in eighteenth-century court dress fill the canvas: a central empress in a powdered wig and gold-embroidered gown holds a jeweled orb and scepter, flanked by women with lace fans and blue gowns on the left and a courtier with a lute beside two more women, one cradling a green parrot, on the right. Small gold ships appear through window-like openings in the red-and-teal backdrop panels separating the figures.
The palette is dominated by gold, crimson, teal and rose in flat, decorative patterning that recalls lacquer or icon painting rather than illusionistic depth. Faces carry smooth academic modeling, while costumes dissolve into dense brocade, embroidery and jewel motifs, giving the scene a hieratic, ceremonial stillness.
