About this work
A large circular disc of textured surface fills the square canvas, its skin broken by dark, branching cracks that converge slightly off-center and run to the disc's ragged edge. Set against a plain pale border, the form suggests a weathered slab, tree-ring, or an aerial view of a breakwater's stone mass, though no coastline or water is actually legible.
Pale celadon green, oatmeal and grey dominate, with small flecks of rust and ochre catching in the cracks, all built from thick, plaster-like impasto scraped and scored to resemble eroded stone. Even, shadowless light gives the surface a geological stillness, quiet and meditative rather than dramatic.
