Bordeaux

A tall pale building front rises on the left beside a cluster of narrower facades and a peaked rooftop receding to the right; a striped canopy or awning cuts diagonally across the lower left corner. No figures appear, the composition is built entirely from overlapping architectural planes pressed close together in a shallow, fog-bound street.

Chalky whites, lavender-greys and soft blues are laid on in thick ridges, likely worked with a palette knife, so that window openings and cornices dissolve into scraped, weathered surfaces. The muted, hazy light and rough impasto give the row of buildings a soft, dreamlike, half-remembered quality.
