About this work
A robed figure with a faceted gem in place of a head sits enthroned at the center, a book in its lap, ringed by concentric bands of red, green, blue and yellow like a rainbow. Around it hover an eagle's head at left, a woman's face and snarling lion at right, and a blue horse-like head below, while tiny crowds of onlookers stand in the lower corners under jagged bolts of lightning.
Fine etched contour lines describe each figure and feather in detail, while broad translucent washes of red, green, blue and gold overlay them like radiating light. The interplay of tight drawing and luminous color wash gives the vision an otherworldly, radiant charge.
