About this work
A large, dark blue-grey bird shape with an elongated curved beak and spread wing stretches across the upper half of the canvas, silhouetted against a violet and pink sky dotted with thin mast-like poles at left. Below it, a long row of jagged white and grey points runs the width of the foreground, forming a serrated ridge that reads as an open, tooth-lined jaw.
Thick, scraped strokes of charcoal-grey and blue build the bird's mass, set off by a small patch of red and streaks of turquoise and yellow along the horizon. The rough, dragged paint and abrupt contrast between the soft sky and jagged teeth-like foreground give the scene a tense, unsettling atmosphere.
