About this work
A dark-haired woman stands full-length against a rocky outcrop, wearing a jeweled crown-like headdress, heavy drop earrings, and a wide bejeweled collar. Her gown shifts from pale silver at the waist to deep malachite-green at the hem, echoing the mossy rock beside her; purple and white wildflowers spill across the foreground, and a faint horizon glows beyond the crags.
The palette moves between smoky greys, greenish blacks, and gold, built with thick, dragged strokes that leave ridges of paint visible. Light falls unevenly across the face and jewelry, leaving the lower body in shadow so the figure seems to merge with the stone. The heavy impasto and murky, glowing sky give the scene a brooding, otherworldly stillness.
