About this work
A huge horned, clawed creature plunges head-first down a steep dark hillside, its taloned hands thrown up against a jagged city skyline silhouetted along the ridge. Its body twists into a mass of tangled limbs and a snarling, fanged red face at the center, while smaller falling figures and animals tumble amid the rocks below.
Dense cross-hatched etching builds the near-black slope and beast in heavy tonal contrast, broken only by pale blue clouds parting in the upper right and warm ochre touches on the skyline. The dragging, scratchy linework and murky palette give the fall a violent, tumbling weight.
