About this work
A boat hull is entirely swathed in a heavy blue tarpaulin, its fabric bunching into sharp peaks and folds as it drapes over the unseen bow. Beneath the cover, a rust-orange wheeled trailer or cradle holds the vessel off the ground, with loosely sketched shapes -- another hull, a boulder -- suggesting a cluttered boatyard around it.
Cool blues and slate greys dominate the tarpaulin, streaked with white pastel for taut highlights and black for deep creases, against a warm orange undercarriage that anchors the composition. The paper's grey tone shows through unworked passages, and quick, scratchy strokes leave much of the setting only implied. The effect is spare and workmanlike, a quiet corner of a boatyard caught in passing light.
