About this work
Three large sunflower blooms crowd the canvas in tight close-up, cropped so their petalled discs overlap and spill beyond the frame. Two heads glow golden-yellow with dark seeded centers, while a third, paler bloom sits between them, its petals rendered as a dense radiating scribble.
Acrylic is laid on in broad, dry-brushed passages of yellow, cream and grey, then scored and scratched with oil pastel to expose the canvas beneath, giving the petals a frayed, almost fibrous texture. The high-key palette and loose, gestural handling push the flowers toward abstraction, producing an energetic, sun-warmed feel.
