Blizzard

A wide snow-covered hillside rises toward a tree-lined ridge under a pale sky, with a line of bare shrubs and trees crossing the middle distance. In the foreground a dark, elongated frozen stream or ditch cuts diagonally across the drifted field, its dark water contrasting with the surrounding snow.

The palette stays almost monochrome, chalky whites, lavender-greys and faint violet shadows, built up in soft, granular pastel strokes that blur every edge into haze. Falling snow is suggested by a fine speckled texture over the whole surface, giving the scene a hushed, muted stillness.
