About this work
A weathered dark-green wooden house with carved eaves and a heavily snow-laden roof anchors the left side of the composition; a low fence painted in bands of yellow, teal and grey runs along the foreground, bare trees rise beside a second house with a reddish roof further back, and snow blankets the yard and path between them.
Muted greens, ochres and teals sit against off-white snow and a flat grey sky; confident, economical brushwork and simplified shapes capture a quiet winter village corner, giving the scene a still, slightly somber mood of an overcast, cold day.
