About this work
Two girls stand close together in a backstage interior. The taller girl, seen in three-quarter view, raises both hands behind her neck to secure her ponytail, while the smaller girl beside her looks down, hands folded at her waist. Both wear sleeveless white dresses suggestive of rehearsal costume; blurred colored shapes behind them hint at curtains, a chair, and scattered belongings.
Worked in soft pastel, warm flesh tones stand out against cream, dusty pink and pale blue passages. Edges dissolve into a gentle blur except where the faces and raised arms are drawn with more focus, and loose, breezy strokes give the scene a tender, dreamlike hush, as if caught in an unguarded backstage moment.
