Academic dacha

A two-story wooden dacha with steep, snow-dusted gables and dark red-brown walls sits on a snow-covered rise, flanked by a row of bare, dark trees. A low fence or wall runs along the base of the slope, and the foreground is given over entirely to trampled snow.

The scene is painted in a cool, close-toned palette of greys, whites and muted browns, with the pale winter sky rendered in soft, blended strokes. Brushwork on the snow is looser and more textured, catching faint blue and lavender shadows, giving the small winter view a hushed, still atmosphere.
