About this work
A tall vase built from collaged newspaper clippings holds a spray of curling stems, each striped black and white like antennae and tipped with round, striped flower heads; one stem arcs down and to the right, ending near the base. The purple background is patterned with vertical stripes and scattered small stars in red, blue, green and yellow, giving the still life a fantastical, patterned setting.
The contrast between the flat, saturated purple ground and the busy, real newsprint text of the vase creates a playful clash of illustration and collage.
