About this work

Several sailboats sit moored in close formation at a dock, their bows facing the viewer. A vivid rust-orange hull stands out at the center among mostly white vessels wrapped in blue tarpaulins and sail covers, with masts, poles and rigging rising against a pale sky. The dark water below holds soft, broken reflections of the hulls and pilings.

The scene is painted in a muted, harbor-grey palette accented by orange, cornflower blue and touches of yellow at the masts, with loose, blocky brushwork that simplifies hulls and rigging into flat planes of color. Textured, scumbled paint gives the water a shimmering, unsettled surface, and the overall mood is calm and quietly observational, like an overcast day at the dock.
