About this work
A wide harbor view shows a cluster of masts and rigging in the foreground water, leading back to a tall brick gate tower on the left and a group of gabled buildings on the right. Low boats and dock structures line the quay, all set beneath a pale, hazy sky that blurs the line between water and air.
Rendered in soft washes of grey, cream and rose with dry, scumbled strokes of oil and pastel, the harbor buildings emerge only as smudged silhouettes against the glowing morning light. The muted, atmospheric palette and blurred edges give the view a hushed, misty calm typical of early morning on the water.
