About this work

On a wide wooden windowsill, a tall dark green bottle stands beside a white ceramic bowl filled with water, a single yellow lemon, and a grey pot holding a leafy plant whose branches catch the light. The objects sit in a loose row against a frosted, mottled grey window that fills the entire background.

The palette is almost monochrome, built from soft greys, warm taupe and muted browns, with the lemon's yellow and the plant's silvery highlights the only strong accents. Broad, flat strokes render the frosted glass as a textured field of scumbled white and grey, while smoother handling on the sill objects gives the still life a hushed, subdued mood.
