About this work
Three deep-red pomegranates are grouped at either side of a central cluster of vessels: a wicker-wrapped demijohn, a tall dark wine bottle, a small white garlic bulb, and a worn wooden bowl and ladle-like tool set slightly behind. All the objects rest on a bare wooden tabletop against a flat, near-black background.
Warm ochre light falls from the upper left, modeling the fruit's leathery skin and the bottle's glassy sheen with smooth, blended brushwork, while the dark backdrop swallows detail and pushes the objects forward. The restrained, earthy palette and quiet, orderly arrangement give the still life a sober, classical weight.
