About this work
A floral-patterned teapot and a matching cup and saucer holding dark tea with a spoon stand at the left on a rumpled cream cloth. Beside them, a two-tiered glass stand displays yellow apples and dark grapes, while a large plate in front holds red and yellow apples with loose grapes scattered at its base, all set against soft folds of white drapery.
The composition is built almost entirely in cool whites, pale blues, and lavender-grey shadows, warmed only by the ripe reds and yellows of the fruit. Smooth, blended brushwork and soft, diffused light give the porcelain and linen a gentle sheen, creating a calm, orderly domestic tea-table arrangement.
