About this work

A brass samovar, a blue-and-white teapot, a glass, and a jug of white flowering branches stand on a rustic wooden table, together with a footed bowl of red cherries and a covered jar. Purple irises and pink lupines rise at either side, and beyond the table a river winds through blue-green hills under a hazy sky.

Cool blues, violets, and greens surround the warm ochre gleam of the samovar, applied in loose, sketchy strokes that keep the outdoor light lively. The relaxed brushwork and varied palette give the scene an unhurried, sunlit domestic warmth.
