About this work
A line of household vessels stands shoulder to shoulder on a plain surface: a footed jug with a blue floral motif, a tall clear-glass bottle, a small clay goblet, a stoneware flask with a handle, a wide-necked ceramic jar, a smaller mug, and a slim bottle, arranged left to right against a soft grey wall.
The entire scene is painted in a narrow range of whites, warm greys and pale ochres, relying on subtle shifts of tone and reflected light to separate one vessel from the next. Brushwork is smooth and restrained, with soft shadows pooling beneath each object, producing a quiet, meditative study in form and light rather than color.
