About this work
A single lily stem rises through the center of the canvas, carrying two fully open white flowers with recurved petals and dark red-tipped stamens, alongside several unopened green buds. Long lance-shaped leaves branch off in tiers down the stalk, all set against a flat, undifferentiated black background that isolates the plant completely.
Crisp, smoothly blended brushwork renders the porcelain-white petals with delicate grey shading, while the leaves shift from cool blue-green to warm yellow-green under a single raking light.
