About this work
A single blood orange sits center stage with its peel unwound in a loose spiral to one side and a wedge of rind resting further back; in the foreground a separated segment lies cut open, exposing juicy red flesh, all reflected faintly in the dark, glossy tabletop beneath.
Deep crimson and white pith stand out sharply against the near-black background, lit from the upper right so highlights catch the peel's curled edges and the wet sheen of the fruit. Brushwork is thick and textured on the rind, smoother across the flesh, producing an intense, close-focused still life with a dramatic play of light and shadow.
