About this work
Two curtains are drawn open like a stage set: on the left a pale blue fabric printed with a busy, colorful pattern, on the right a heavy solid orange-red drape. Between them a dark mahogany wall cabinet is revealed, its shelves holding a stereo receiver and stacked cassette tapes behind glass-fronted doors. A plain wooden chair with an orange seat cushion stands in front, angled toward the viewer.
The palette contrasts the cool patterned blue against the warm, saturated orange of the curtain and chair seat, with the cabinet's deep red-brown wood grounding the center. Fabric folds are rendered with smooth, deliberate shading that gives the drapery real weight, while the flat lighting and symmetrical framing lend the domestic scene a staged, theatrical quality.
