About this work
A single dark mountain summit streaked with snow dominates the middle distance, its lower slopes half-buried under thick banks of cloud filling the valley below. To the right, a steep, rocky foreground slope studded with dark green pines descends out of frame, while patches of green valley floor show faintly through the mist.
Cool blue-grays render the peak and drifting cloud, warmed by ochre and green in the nearer rock and trees, built up with thick, textured strokes from both brush and palette knife. Soft atmospheric transitions between distance and foreground give the scene a hushed, expansive calm.
