About this work
Seen from a raised vantage point, weathered clay-tiled roofs and brick chimneys of a village house fill the foreground, one gable built of rough fieldstone with a small window. Beyond them a slender church spire rises above a cluster of red rooftops, with green fields and low hills stretching to the horizon under a pale sky.
Muted earth tones — ochre tiles, gray stone, soft green foliage — are set against a hazy blue-gray sky, with a few red geraniums adding a bright accent at lower right. Brushwork is loose and broken on the roof tiles and stonework, giving the view a calm, unhurried rural atmosphere.
