About this work
A quiet forest stream is framed by dense green foliage and slender trunks arching overhead. A shaft of sunlight catches one trunk in warm orange-red, while the rest of the grove recedes into deep shadow. A bleached, forked branch lies half-submerged near the bank, its reflection breaking the still, dark water. A muddy slope occupies the lower left foreground.
The palette is dominated by layered dark greens and near-black shadow, punctuated by the warm glow on the lit trunk.
