About this work
Rows of vines supported by pale wooden stakes fill the foreground and middle ground, receding across undulating terraced ground. A small red-roofed stone shed sits among slender trees at middle distance, with a tall cypress rising at left. Layered blue-gray mountain ridges recede toward a pale, hazy sky.
Greens, ochres and browns describe the vines against cool blue mountains and a soft cream sky. Rapid, broken brushwork and visible canvas texture give the small work the loose, unfinished character of a quick outdoor etude rather than a finished piece, with even, diffuse light producing a calm rural mood.
