About this work
Round machicolated towers and turrets of a stone castle rise above a wooded hillside, framed by tall slender tree trunks in the foreground; a steep path or ravine strewn with rocks and undergrowth descends toward the viewer, and small rooftops and a terrace balustrade are visible at the base of the walls.
Dark blackish greens dominate the foliage, set against cool gray stone and a streak of dusky pink-white sky at dusk; broken, textured strokes build the leaves and rocks while smoother handling describes the masonry, producing a hushed, slightly mysterious twilight atmosphere.
