About this work
A tall cypress forms a black silhouette beside a two-tiered veranda with white balustrades and a stepped lattice roof, leading to an arched building whose ochre wall glows from an unseen interior light. A faint pale shape near the porch's base suggests a lamp or figure, while a low wall lines the foreground path.
Deep indigo and teal dominate the composition, broken by the warm ochre and gold glow spilling from the archway. Loose, visible brushstrokes follow the coarse canvas weave, and the small square format concentrates the scene into a hushed, mysterious nocturne of quiet streets and lantern light.
