About this work
Snow-covered ground and bare, twisting shrubs dotted with red berries and a few golden leaves fill the foreground of a winter park. A tall black lamppost stands among the bushes, and through a screen of leafless trees the blue domes and a slender minaret of a mosque emerge in soft focus against the pale sky.
Thick, impasto strokes of white and grey build up the snow, while dabs of rust-orange and ochre pick out the dry branches and fallen leaves. The mosque's blue domes are laid in with soft, hazy touches that recede into the cool winter light, giving the scene a quiet, crisp, wintry calm.
