About this work
A dancer crouches low with one arm raised overhead and the other reaching down, body twisted into a dramatic diagonal. The costume is covered in beaded rows, metallic bands on the arms and legs, and a red-tasseled cap, set against a backdrop of heavy gold-and-blue paisley curtains and a bare wooden stage floor.
Thick, textured paint builds up the jeweled and beaded details in relief, while the deep blue backdrop and warm wood floor frame the figure in strong tonal contrast. The raised brushwork and bold pattern give the scene an intense, theatrical energy.
