About this work

Two half-length figures fill the circular field: a bearded, horned man grips a large wooden club crossed at chest height, while beside him a young woman with small pointed ears rests a hand on his shoulder, her torso bare. Both face outward with stern, fixed expressions against a plain dark blue ground, ringed by a border of painted fruit and small darting fish or lizard motifs.

The figures are built with warm flesh tones and firm outlines that read almost like an icon, set flat against the saturated ultramarine field with little tonal gradation. Sparse, symmetrical framing and the frontal stares give the pairing a still, mysterious presence rather than a narrative moment.
