About this work
Two crowned figures stand embracing at the centre, one robed in white and pale blue patterned with fish and leaves, the other in red patterned with a sun-and-moon face. A stylised wolf's head with an open jaw appears lower left, its scaled legs curling around the couple against a dense tangle of silver, gold and teal foliage on a near-black ground, with a small emblem at bottom centre.
The surface is built from flat, jewel-like colour areas outlined in fine dark contour, with dense ornamental patterning covering the robes and the surrounding vines. Against the near-black ground the silver, red and gold tones glow with an icon-like intensity, and the linear, decorative handling gives the scene a hushed, fairy-tale mysteriousness rather than naturalistic weight.
