About this work

A long symmetrical brick depot building with pilasters, a raised glazed roof lantern, and a row of eight arched window bays numbered 17 through 24 spans the composition. Thin lines resembling overhead wires crisscross the pale sky above, and the entire structure is mirrored upside down beneath it, doubling the facade.

Rust-red brick contrasts with teal-blue window glazing and a pale ochre sky, the surface built up thickly and incised with fine cracks suggesting weathered stucco or cracked ice. The precise, almost diagrammatic symmetry and doubled reflection give the image a cool, quietly mysterious, graphic character.
