About this work

A heavy, dark storm cloud fills the upper two-thirds of the canvas, its underside frayed into visible curtains of falling rain; below, a flat green field stretches to a low horizon where a cluster of small buildings and trees catches warm light, with a dark ditch and a wooden bench set in the foreground shadow.

Painted in loose, broken strokes, the palette shifts from near-black and slate gray in the clouds to warm ochre and rose on the distant houses, creating strong tonal contrast; the thick, textured sky and thinly brushed field give the scene an unsettled, dramatic weight, as though the storm is about to break.
