About this work
Branches form the bowl of a giant chalice, each fork marked by a numbered roundel like links in a family tree; at the center an oval womb-form holds a curled fetus. Below, the stem narrows into a glowing shaft flanked by ghostly robed elders standing among the roots, while a nude figure stands at the trunk's base surrounded by grazing animals.
Dense stippled etching builds near-black depths around the tree, punctuated by pale unworked paper for the medallions, embryo, and central figure so they glow against the dark. The intricate, obsessive detail and genealogical numbering give the print a solemn, meditative weight, as if tracing generations back to a single origin.
