About this work
An oversized, faceted dragonfly with translucent green wings dominates the composition, its long segmented body running the full height of the canvas above a dense field of blooming pink-purple fireweed. Wisps of cloud drift across a blue sky, and a small red house with a fence sits low in the corner, dwarfed by the flowering field and the insect above it.
Saturated blues, greens, and magenta-pinks are outlined in heavy dark contour lines, with paint built up in thick, ridged strokes across the flowers and insect wings. Color and scale are pushed beyond naturalism, and the oversized creature set against the small house gives the image a bright, dreamlike, faintly unsettling energy.
