About this work
An old panelled door is set into a plastered stone facade, its left leaf closed and the right leaf swung inward to reveal a dark, empty interior. Cracked render, patched plaster and worn paint cover the surrounding wall, with a stone step and broken masonry visible at the base.
The surface is built up in thin, dry layers with visible canvas weave, fine cracks and scumbled whites recreating decades of flaking paint. A muted palette of ochre, grey and rust is lit by a soft, even light that leaves the doorway itself in shadow. The close, still framing and worn detail give the scene a quiet, melancholic stillness.
