About this work
A metal-rimmed cup and saucer sit at the center of a cloth-draped table, a dark rose glimpsed inside the cup and a long spoon leaning against its handle. Two curling, vein-like leaves lie symmetrically to either side. Above a beaded rim border, billowing clouds swirl into a moth-like winged face and scrollwork.
Dense cross-hatching in black ink builds the cup's metal sheen and the porcelain's curve, while looser, whirling strokes animate the sky above. The shift from careful still-life detail to turbulent fantasy gives the print an unsettling, dreamlike charge despite its restrained sepia-tinted palette.
