About this work
A tightly packed still life gathers numerous teapots and lidded vessels of different sizes and glazes - plain white, blue-and-white, mottled green, and dark brown - clustered together on a red cloth. A small creamer sits in the foreground and a saucer appears at the upper edge of the group.
Thick impasto strokes build up each vessel from loaded, broad brushwork, while the saturated red ground pushes forward against the cool blues and whites of the porcelain. The overlapping shapes and bold, decorative color create an energetic, warm still-life study.
